What is Global Warming?

Global Warming is a term commonly used in two ways:

1. It is a phenomenon in the temperature measurements showing an average increase in temperature of atmosphere and oceans in recent decades.

2. It is a theory that predicts, based on projections based on computer simulations, future growth temperatures.

The term "global warming" generally implies the consideration of the influence of human activities. This variant anthropogenic theory predicts that this will happen if emissions continue greenhouse gases. The majority scientific opinion on climate change says that "most of the warming observed over the past 50 years is attributable to human activity." The simulations suggest that the main cause of the component of human-induced heat should be increased of carbon dioxide .
The planet's temperature has been rising since the late nineteenth century , when it ended the period known as the Little Ice Age .

sometimes used the name climate change, which means any change in climate, without entering into discussions about their cause. To indicate the existence of human influence uses the term anthropogenic climate change .

Global warming and greenhouse effect are not synonymous. The enhanced greenhouse pollution can be, according to the theories, the cause of observed global warming.

Although the discussion focuses on temperature, global warming or any climate change involves changes in other variables: the global rainfall patterns, cloud cover and all other elements of the atmospheric system.

The complexity of the problem and its multiple interactions make the only objective way to evaluate simultaneously these changes is through the use of computer models that attempt to simulate the physics of the atmosphere and ocean and have limited accuracy due to unknown current functioning of the atmosphere.

multigovernmental and scientific body responsible for global analysis is the Intergovernmental Panel Climate Change (IPCC, for its acronym in English of Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change). One of the most notable consequences of their work is Kyoto Protocol, which calls for reducing pollutant emissions (especially greenhouse gases) by the industrialized countries.

The protocol has been criticized as unfair, considering the increase associated with development issues, so that the most affected are those least developed. The forecast of the protocol is that if all the most polluting countries sign it, you get a reduction in the average temperature on Earth of 0.07 ° C.
